Thank you to all that participated, families that supported, volunteers that helped and sponsors that donated to make the 2023 Big Sky Country State Fair a HUGE success! We had over 325 youth exhibitors participate this year in approximately 40 different projects. The Indoor Projects building was the most full we've seen it the last few years and the Market Livestock Auction brought in over 1 MILLION DOLLARS for the 3rd year in a row! We are so proud of our 4-H members and thankful to have such a supportive community.

Indoor Projects 2023
We had GREAT participation in 4-H Indoor Projects this year at the Big Sky Country State Fair! Check out the album linked below of our youth members with their amazing creations - Cloverbuds, posters, leatherwork, baked goods, decorated cakes, knitting/crochet, photography and so much MORE!! The Indoor Building is also home to our 4-H Promotional Booth, Club Displays, our graduating senior displays, and 4-H scholarship recipient highlight. The Indoor Silent Auction was a hit and approximately 15 projects were auctioned off to support Indoor members.

2023 Montana 4-H State Congress Recap!
Gallatin 4-H was well represented at the 2023 Montana 4-H Congress earlier in July. Such a fun week of learning, networking and becoming better leaders for our community! We had 11 teen members attend, 7 compete in State Contests and 2 qualify for National 4-H Congress in November. Some of our 4-H Beef members even made an appearance with their steers to help with the Livestock Judging contest.

ULC (Unlimited Leaders Council)
ULC meets the first Tuesday of every month, with our next meeting on
September 5th at 6pm at the Extension Office. There will be no meeting in August.
The committee met back on July 5th before heading full speed ahead into Fair. Final details on 4-H Camp, Awards Night dates and Fair Concessions were discussed. The ULC Committee would like to thank each of the adult managers that stepped up to help in the 4-H Cafe at the Fair!! ULC is hoping to partner with the Gallatin Sheriff's Office to host a mental health workshop later this fall. We are looking to the community for partnerships to host a CPR class for our volunteers and youth this fall/winter. Stay tuned for more details on nominations, project awards and achievement journals for Awards Night!

Upcoming Events:
Montana State 4-H Horse Show
The State 4-H Horse Show will be September 22nd-September 24th at Cottonwood Equine Center, Joliet, MT. It is a horse show for all 4-H Horse members in Montana to showcase their horses in showmanship, bareback, horsemanship, equitation, trail, western, english, and more. Youth, ages 9-19 years old, may enter and compete based on the qualifying guidelines of their county. Members must compete at state with the same horse they showed at the county level at fair.

Montana 4-H Working Ranch Horse Finals
The WRH finals will be September 8th-September 10th in Vaugh, MT. Saturday's competition is open to any 4-H youth enrolled in the 4-H Working Ranch Horse project (Levels 1-4). There is no requirement that youth compete at a county level or qualifying show to participate in WRHF. The 4-H youth is required to be enrolled in the same county level as the level entered in at WRHF and be in good standing as a 4-H member. One horse must be used for all classes within the level. Horse must be an approved project horse for the current 4-H year. The events will include roping, sorting cattle, riding patterns, reining, cow work, trail and ranch riding.
