SEPTEMBER 2022 NEWSLETTER

RSVP NOW!
4-H Awards Night for Volunteers and Youth

We are in our final month of wrapping up the 2021-2022 4-H year and want to invite families to celebrate the closing of the 4-H year to the Youth and Volunteer Awards Night on Monday, September 26 at the Bozeman Grantree Inn.

An RSVP is required as the meal will be catered. RSVP HERE: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084DA9A92AABFE3-gallatin1.

Record Books: Our office mailed paper and sent emailed letters to 4-H youth who have been nominated for a 2022 project award. **If you received this letter, please make sure to follow the requirements and turn your updated record book back to the office for one more review by September 9th, 2022.

Even if you don’t get nominated, please remember that record keeping is one of the many skills we are teaching youth in 4-H. Practicing keeping accurate and updated records will help in your future projects and when applying for jobs/scholarships/college – be sure to update your records books with all your project information/financial records/ribbons/etc. up through the current date.

Achievement Journal: If you would like to apply for one of the Outstanding 4-H Member Awards- please complete this application. Email application to gallatin4h@montana.edu or print and drop off at the Extension office by September 9th 5pm.

You do not need to be receiving an award to be a part of this celebratory evening!  Come cheer on your fellow volunteers and youth!

Nominate A Volunteer: 4-H Volunteers are so important each year to hold meetings, organize events, pass on their talent and knowledge, work behind the scenes, make time for helping youth and families in 4-H, and so much more.  If you have worked with a volunteer or noticed what they did to make 4-H better, please take a moment to nominate them!

Nominate a Friend of 4-H:  We are grateful for many organizations, businesses, and even community members to make 4-H successful each year (not only at fair).  If you have worked with someone this past year and would like to nominate them for recognition at awards night- please complete the electronic nomination.
2022 4-H ”Mystery” Summer Camp

Camp was a huge success thanks to our 60 campers, 20 teen counselors, amazing volunteers and Yellowstone Alliance Adventures Staff.

Campers enjoyed decorating cabins, creating team flags, mystery-themed workshop activities (Invisible Ink, Mystery Food experiments, Police Investigation work, Escape Room/Obstacle Course, Mystery Messages), and a Dance!. They had fun on a hike, slip’ n’ slide, Zip Line, Archery and working to solve the crimes of our camp suspect “Sally Suspicious."

4-H Camp included a Community Service project this year too! Campers helped make tie blankets to put into drawstring sacks with some personal care products that will later be donated to children in need.

We are already looking forward to next year!

ULC

ULC meets the first Tuesday of every month, with our next meeting on September 5th at 6pm at the Extension Office. The Committee decided to have a July meeting instead of an August meeting due to 4-H Camp conflict and taking graduating seniors to colleges.

The ULC Committee's Policy & Procedures sub-committee has proposed a new policy that would take effect in the 2022-2023 4-H Year. This policy was published for 30 days in August to allow for any public comment or feedback. See below the proposed Membership Policy that would impact the enrollment timeframe.

Gateway Challengers

It’s been awhile since we’ve been together and I want to remind you about our next meeting, which will be Monday, September 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Gallatin Gateway Community Center. We’ll be wrapping up this 4-H year and you’re all invited to come and share stories from your summer and your fair experiences.

Our new 4-H year begins on October 1, and don’t forget that we all have to re-enroll for the new 4-H year starting on that date. I hope you’ll all join us again for another year of learning and growing in 4-H.

Also, I wanted to update you about how AWESOME our Chicken Poop Bingo event at the Gallatin Gateway Birthday Bash went on July 30! Our club made $250 with donations and bingo entries, yay! We will have to plan this year as a club what we may be able to accomplish with some funds in our club account. If you know Amber Mauriello, you can thank her for getting us up and running on the bingo and allowing us to use her chickens, Cheep-cheep, Goldie Hawn, and Cruella!

KNITTING/CROCHET

Greetings knitters and crocheters!

We will be meeting at Cafe M in Belgrade, 9:30 - 11:15 on the first and third Saturday morning (depending on what our 4-Hers want for dates to meet). Our first meeting will be a get-together, the 4-Hers should bring their past projects and ones they are currently doing, their goals -- if they have them already thought up --, this past year's record books so we can all go over the pros and cons of how best to keep them up to date, etc.

Our first get-together will be the official date to get enrolled -- October 1.  By getting together then, the 4-Hers can make sure Jeanette and I are on the same page they are on and also they can help us brainstorm how to get more knitters and crocheters.
