Beef
Our first workshop of the year will be virtual. This Selection Workshop was produced by Sullivan Supply and has some very good information and videos about what to look for when choosing your steer or heifer. To receive credit for this workshop you will need to email me a short paragraph of several things that the workshop describes as important characteristics. Please go to the following web page to access the video. https://vimeo.com/465463460
If anyone is still looking for steers let me know, I may have a couple of contacts for producers that still have steers available.
Halters and neck ropes from the 2020 fair will be in a box at the Extension Office. You can stop by there to pick up yours up if you have not gotten them already.
We will be doing virtual workshops for Halter Breaking and Feeding. Keep your eyes open for emails regarding these workshops in the next couple of weeks.
As we move into a new 4H year we are still navigating COVID-19. Your leaders take your safety and health very seriously. That is why we want everyone in the beef project to understand that there will be two workshops this year that will be a mandatory in person meeting with your steer. These are to make sure that you and your classmates are safe and your steer is manageable. We will take every step possible to follow Gallatin County Health department guidelines. In order to sell your animals at fair you have to show them in person. We have no idea how things will look in 8 months from now, so we hope you take time to make sure you understand the rules now. If this is something you’re not comfortable with we ask that you consult the office or leaders ASAP.
Anyone who is raising an extra steer needs to make their own arrangements to have them processed. We are only able to reserve enough spaces for the animals sold at the fair, many local processors are booking into 2022 so make arrangements early.
If you have any questions please contact a Beef Project Leader.

Thank You to our Sponsors
Gallatin County 4-H Shooting Sports is very fortunate to have the support of many individuals and conservation organizations. We are very fortunate to be recipients of a Friends of NRA Grant for this shooting season of 2020 - 2021. We will be able to purchase and obtain the needed targets, ammunition, and equipment to serve our programs. Manhattan Wildlife Association and the Southwest Montana Chapter of SCI have been a tremendous supporter to 4-H Shooting Sports. They embrace the opportunity to help with youth shooting and provide the venue to offer the various shooting disciplines. Thank you to these sponsors. Without their dedication to youth shooting, our shooting sports program could not do what we do for the members of Gallatin County 4-H Shooting Sports.
