Gallatin 4-H Youth Member Grants
DUE April 1st, 2026
Thanks to a generous donation from a Gallatin 4-H Family, Patrick & Merrita Marble, we have are excited to announce that we established the "John V Farrow 4-H Project Grant" to support and invest in 4-H youth member projects.
A message from Patrick Marble: "While we were reciting the 4-H pledge [at 4-H Fall Leadership Training back in November], I couldn’t help but wonder how many years it had been since the first time I said those words. I believe it was 1985 or maybe 1984, and it was in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, when I had my first 4-H project. At that time, they had a 'preclubber' program that allowed you to start as early as 8, as long as you were paired with a senior member who would help you complete your project. That first year, my first project was a steer that had been funded by my grandfather. Now, to be experiencing 4-H with my son, who marks the fourth generation of my family in 4-H, and to reflect on the impact that 4-H has on youth, is a humbling experience. So, if you ever need a youth organization to support or get involved with, in my opinion, there is no other choice."
The "John V Farrow 4-H Project Grant" was so named after Patrick's grandfather, the gentleman who invested in his grandson's 4-H project and taught him the value of setting goals, budgeting project expenses, and record keeping. Those lessons and investment have had lasting impact and the Marble Family would like to support Gallatin 4-H youth member projects in the same way.
- Grant Purpose:
- To help promote the values of 4-H and to help develop those values in 4-H members by increasing project opportunities through financial assistance to 4-H members who need help funding their indoor or small animal projects.
- Application Deadline:
- April 1st of current 4-H Year
- Applications for the current 4-H year will be reviewed on a first come, first served basis, but not beyond the April ULC meeting.
- Apply via the Financial Assistance request form and denote "John V Farrow 4-H Project Grant" on application: UpdatedFundingRequestForm.pdf
- Who Qualifies:
- Open to
any 4-H member in good standing with their 4-H Club (*Youth not enrolled in a Club, Members at Large, are not eligible).
- 4-H members who need help funding their indoor or small animal projects.
- The 4-H member must fill out an application for financial assistance.
- The 4-H member must exhibit a track record of project and club fundraising (to be disclosed on their application).
- Application must be approved by ULC.
- Frequency of Grant Award:
- 2 awards annually of up to $50.00 each.
- 1 annual award to be determined under the Molly Yurdana Rule
- 1 annual award to be determined under the GK Fraker Rule
- Special Rules established by the Grant Founders:
- The Molly Yurdana Rule – In recognition of Molly’s dedication to the Gallatin County 4-H youth, it is only appropriate to provide Molly with the ability to recognize the need of one 4-H member at her discretion. Any applications under this rule shall be discussed and agreed upon with the founders of this Grant.
- GK Fraker Rule – In recognition of the Fraker family’s commitment to Leather Craft and 4-H, one additional award of up to $100.00 is available annually for a Leathercraft Project 4-H member. Any applications under this rule shall be reviewed and voted on by the ULC.
Upon notice of Award, a thank you note, including how the funds have specifically benefited the 4-H member, shall be drafted and shall be sent to:

4-H/FFA Fair Camping Informational Zoom Calls
for 4-H/FFA families with reserved RV camping spots
ONLY
The Fairgrounds Office sends out Fair Camping information via email in February/March each year to those who have had reserved camping spots for Fair Week. This email will have your Camping spot paperwork (due May 31st) and the 2026 Camping Policies. Be sure to check your junk/spam folders if you did not receive this email.
The Fairgrounds Office will be hosting TWO informational Q&A Zoom Calls to answer any questions or clarify any of the policies for those who have designated camping spots.
Camping Families can tune in either:
Tuesday, March 31st at 3pm
or Wednesday, April 8th at 6pm
FAQ: How do I get a Camping Spot? Reservations are made through the Fairgrounds Office, not our 4-H Office. Due to the longevity of 4-H families’ participation in the Fair, they have adopted the policy that once a 4-H family reserves a spot, they are on the RV list until they no longer need a spot. If all sites are full, a waiting list is utilized. As spots in the more desired areas open, families will then be moved up the list. You can contact the fairgrounds to be put on the waiting list but they set reservations back in February. There is limited camping space/spots and the livestock leaders who oversee the barns are given priority spots.

WORKSHOP PROPOSALS NEEDED - Calling all 4-H volunteers, adults/parents and community partners!
In the efforts to provide more fun, social, and skill-building opportunities for our younger Gallatin County 4-H members, we are excited to announce we will be putting on a county-level
Junior Rec Lab this spring!
What is Rec Lab? “Rec Lab” stands for Recreation Lab and means everything is fun and hands-on. Montana 4-H hosts a state-wide, overnight, weekend-long version of this event for teens, but 4-H state-level events only allow youth ages 13+ to attend.
So, we wanted to create a county-level event that our Junior Members could enjoy! Gallatin 4-H Junior Rec Lab will be open to Gallatin 4-H youth 8-12 years old only (age as of Oct. 1st, 2025).
This 1/2 day event will be designed for younger members to expose them to what state 4-H events are like in a modified format! This event will provide an opportunity for younger youth to develop their skills, discover new interests, explore the basics of leadership, communication and teamwork in an action-packed and interactive setting.
We know we have some incredibly talented and knowledgeable volunteers and community partners – so we invite
YOU to share your talents/hobbies/careers by teaching a workshop at the 2026 Gallatin 4-H Junior Rec Lab. These workshops can be on
ANYTHING – they do not need to be 4-H-related or be within a 4-H project area! In years past State Rec Lab has had workshops on leadership and team building activities, making jewelry rings out of quarters, identifying animal furs, making food in Dutch ovens or spaghetti noodles from scratch, blacksmithing, sewing coin pouches, up-cycling clothes, boating safety, and swing dance lessons!
The main idea is that the workshop is
HANDS-ON! It can be something you’ve taught at a Club/Project meeting, or elsewhere in your line of work. Workshops are to be 1 hour in length and will take place on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 between 1pm and 5pm. Youth will select 1 workshop per hour that piques their interest, meaning they will have the opportunity to attend a total of 4 workshops throughout the day.
Please help us SPARK new interests and INSPIRE our younger members to involved in higher-level 4-H opportunities!

Help Raise Money for your 4-H Project or Club
We have the AMAZING opportunity to continue to work MSU Concessions and this has become a GREAT way to raise money for 4-H club/project activities! Please see the link below for the 2025-2026 Fundraising concessions events at MSU! We frequently commit to events throughout the year as they arise and update the SignUp Genius accordingly.
What does working MSU Concessions entail?
All food is made and prepped by MSU Culinary/Concessions staff, 4-H members/parents just simply sell and serve it out of one of the concessions stands on MSU Campus (Stadium or Fieldhouse depending on the event). This is a super easy, fun and quick way to make money for your Clubs/Projects and gain some skills in the service industry! A Stand Leader and MSU Concessions staff will train you on the spot with what you need to know - No experience necessary!
2025-2026 MSU Concessions Fundraising SignUp:
Fundraising: 4-H Concessions Fundraising Opportunities
If club/project members sign up for an event as a group, your club/project will get ALL the tips and a percentage of the profits from that event. If multiple projects/clubs sign up for the same game, then the tips and profits will be split between the groups. So, we highly encourage you to gather up your members, pick a game/event that your club/project will work as one group to maximize the amount of money you will earn!
Depending on the event, the day/time/hours will vary and depending on our concessions stand location, the number of people we will need per game will vary. We will need a combination of youths (minimum age of 10 with parent accompaniment) and teens/adults (ages 15+) to run cash registers.
If you have any questions, please contact the 4-H Office

UNLIMITED LEADERS COUNCIL (ULC)
The primary purpose of the Unlimited Leaders Council (ULC) is to provide guidance and assistance to the county Extension staff in planning and conducting educational programs. Gallatin County Unlimited Leaders Council is the governing body of Gallatin County 4-H and all the committees within the county 4-H program.
✨ ULC February Highlights ✨
The Unlimited Leaders Council met at the Gallatin County Extension Office and packed a LOT into one night! We officially welcomed Tia Mitchell as a new voting member (huge yay 🎉), got rave reviews on the newly updated website and online annual calendar, and heard awesome reports from Youth Leadership about Winter Workshop, Shooting Sports, and teen leadership activities.
Meeting Highlights:
- 🛷 Sledding Days are happening!
If snow doesn’t cooperate, backup “Winter Olympics” style games are on the table. Flexibility is the name of the game this year ❄️➡️☀️
- 🎯 Shooting Sports in full swing
Air rifle and air pistol are seeing great attendance and consistency. Targets may return as Indoor Fair exhibits this year as display pieces, showcasing members’ hard work at State competitions.
- 💸 Scholarship payouts got a glow-up
ULC approved updated county contest scholarship percentages so awards better reflect today’s costs. Seniors can now receive up to 100% coverage for camps or Congress, with expanded payout options for juniors and intermediates to encourage participation and growth.
- 📅 Jr. Rec Lab is set for May 2
Hosted at Belgrade Commons for ages 8–12, featuring 16 hands-on, interactive workshops (45 minutes each). Clover Bash will follow, and there’s currently no attendance cap—bring the energy!
- 🍦 Fair concessions planning is underway
With restroom access limited this year, concessions will focus on simple crowd-pleasers like ice cream, soda, and peanuts. The BBQ tent will be expanded for more shade and seating—comfort upgrades for fair week 🙌
- 🍽️ Restaurant fundraiser ideas brewing
Texas Roadhouse is the current favorite for a spring fundraiser (family-friendly + multiple fundraising options!). Dates are being explored around MSU graduation weekend.
- 🐎 Horse members perk alert
Instructors are offering one free $75 riding lesson voucher to all horse members—great opportunity to build skills and confidence in the saddle.
- 🏕️ Summer Camp prep = strong vibes
Counselors recently met for a bowling team-bonding night, are planning Luau-themed camp fun, and will receive upcoming training on working with high-energy kiddos (plus a “How to Be a Hype Counselor” session in March!).
Big momentum, lots of collaboration, and a jam-packed spring ahead for Gallatin 4-H - thanks to everyone who keeps the wheels turning! 💚
ULC meets the first Tuesday of every month, with our next meeting on
March 3rd at 6pm at the Extension Office.

MARKET LIVESTOCK COMMITTEE (MLC)
The purpose of the Market Livestock Committee is to develop and promote all market livestock projects (Beef, Sheep, Swine, Goat, Rabbit, and Poultry) in 4-H and FFA on a county-wide basis, with support offered to non-market projects as well (Dairy Cow, Dairy Goat, Horse, Breed/Breeding projects). They provide members the educational experience and support to responsibly raise, care for, and sell their 4-H/FFA market animals; organize & facilitate the Gallatin County 4-H/FFA Market Sale; create and enforce the FairBook Rules specific to all livestock species; and work together as a committee to set and enforce the standard for all livestock projects.
The Gallatin County 4-H/FFA Market Livestock Committee kicked off 2026 with a jam-packed January meeting. Adjustments to check-in times, show schedules, and awards were finalized across all species, from beef and swine to poultry, rabbits, and goats. New tents are being rented to replace the Red Sale Barn, and logistical planning for chairs, judges, vets, and biosecurity is underway. Workshops including livestock judging, marketing, and ultrasound are being scheduled with alumni support to ensure hands-on learning and reduced stress for animals.
Fundraising and concessions plans are moving forward, including creative options like ice cream shakes, coffee, and food trucks.
Our next committee meeting will be Tuesday, March 10th at 6pm at the Extension Office.
See the DRAFT 2026 Fair Livestock Schedule below

BABYSITTING PROJECT *new project in 2025-2026!
*This Project will be capped at 25 youth members. Youth members must be at least 11 years old (age as of Oct. 1st) to participate.
Please Note: In order to earn the official Babysitting Training Certificate, members cannot miss more than 2 meetings.
This project curriculum familiarizes youth with the responsibilities of babysitting and provides the necessary information for them to become capable, caring, trustworthy and competent sitters. They will learn how to keep children safe and happy, talk with parents and adults, make responsible decisions and handle emergencies (CPR, nutrition, handling children, and more)!
We had a great fourth meeting! We talked about child development, diapering and potty habits in kids and had a great video submitted from Flora McCormick at Sustainable Parenting to help us understand discipline and getting kids to cooperate. She had some wonderful tricks!
I encourage the babysitters to look into getting CPR certified as they get into their solo babysitting journey.
This project will meet the second Wednesday of each month from 6:00pm-7:30pm (November-May) at the 4-H Office. The March meeting will be Wednesday the 11th. We will talk about nutrition, make some snacks you could make while babysitting and sew babysitting bags!
Please bring your 4-H binder to each meeting.

CAMP COUNSELOR PROJECT
2026 Camp Theme is….Tropical Luau/Survivor🌺🌴🐠🦜🏝️🦩
Our next Camp Counselor Meeting will be SUNDAY, March 22nd from 1:00pm-4:00pm at the 4-H Office. We will have a guest speaker, Luke Smith from YAA, joining us for the first 1.5-2 hours to provide a Counselor Skills training!
To Do’s:
- We are considering coordinating a Camp Counselor Dance Night as a team bonding activity. Western Roots Country Dancing company hosts a monthly dance at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds that is open to the public (and family friendly, no alcohol). This could be a great opportunity for our teens to have some fun on a Friday night as a group and learn some new line dances or swing dance moves they could use/teach at 4-H Camp. The dances charge $10 per person and it would be the responsibility of the Counselor to pay that fee (the Camp account would not pay this time). **Please cast your availability/preferences on the linked Poll so we can determine which date to coordinate for the majority of counselors to go together: https://band.us/band/85980638/post/250
Fundraising:
Reminder that each of you are REQUIRED to fundraise at
least $250 to help support Camp costs (it essentially covers your own camp registration fee).
- Consider signing up for MSU Concession shifts (denote Camp as the project you are raising money for). SignUp here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084DA9A92AABFE3-48570182-fall#/
- The 2025-2026 Sponsorship Letter was shared with all Camp Counselors at the February meeting as a fundraising option.
- See Butter Braid & Cookie Dough sales information below:
Are you ready to fundraise?! Get your game faces on and get ready to SELL SELL SELL! The Camp Counselor project will be selling Butter Braids, Wooden Spoon Cookie Dough, Rocky Mountain Roasting Coffee and Gluten-Free Prairie Bakery Mixes.
WAYS TO SELL:
- Paper Forms: Counselors can sell products via paper order forms. Paper forms will be handed out to Counselors at the 02/22 meeting or can be picked up at the 4-H Office (Monday-Friday 8am-5pm). Any checks must be written to "Gallatin County 4-H" and customers only need to write one check per order, even if they order items off more than one product sheet.
and/or
- Online Store Links: Counselors can sell products using the 2 unique links below by sharing them digitally with supporters. **Each link is unique to just those products, so each link needs to be shared if customers want to buy products across the different stores. Customers can select which Counselor they are supporting during their transaction, or support the “General Camp 4-H Project” Fund if they don’t prefer someone in particular.
Butter Braid Online Store Link: https://store.myfundraisingplace.com/22581a89-860f-4202-a97f-51b8d6b4cb8f
Wooden Spoon Cookie Dough Online Store Link: https://store.myfundraisingplace.com/a91170ed-6f88-455e-b7bc-5af1cef24acd
Orders OPENED February 22nd and the HARD DEADLINE for all orders (online and paper forms) will be at our March 22nd Camp Counselor Meeting. Products will be delivered to the 4-H Office on Monday, March 30th at 3:30pm. Counselors will be responsible for picking up their batch of orders from the Office and hand-delivering the products to the customers that bought from them – we ideally want all customers to have their orders
PRIOR to Easter (April 5th) so they can enjoy them.
You have LESS THAN 30 days to sell - make it count!!

CLOVERBUD PROJECT (AGES 5-7) *new leader in 2025-2026!
**This Project is FULL and is no longer taking new enrollments.
The Cloverbud program is designed for youth ages 5-7 (age as of Oct. 1) and strives to develop age-appropriate skills and abilities by giving these young members the opportunity to explore various topics and activities in 4-H before becoming a regular youth member.
At our February meeting we had so much fun talking about pets. With their “pets” that they brought to our meeting, we discussed their names, diet, habitat and had a fun little race with them. I must not forget the dance party that we enjoyed at the end of the night.
There will NOT be a Cloverbud Meeting in March. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 21 at 5:30pm in Exhibit Building #4 at the fairgrounds. Please make sure to bring crayons/markers, scissors, glue to each meeting (just to be on the safe side). Be on the lookout for an email with what our April meeting will entail.
Cloverbud meetings for the 2025-2026 4-H Year will be on the 3rd Tuesday of each month (October - May) from 5:30pm-7pm held in the Exhibit Buildings on the Gallatin County Fairgrounds.

COOKING PROJECT *new leader in 2025-2026!
**This Project is FULL and is no longer taking new enrollments.
The Cooking Project meetings for the 2025-2026 4-H Year will be on the 3rd Tuesday of each month (Nov. - May) from 6:00pm-8pm held at the MSU Herrick Hall Food Lab #120 on MSU Campus.
The cooking project is off to a great start in 2026. During last month's meeting, members practiced safe knife skills and kitchen organization before making three different soups: Potato soup, Classic Tomato Basil soup, and Chicken-less noodle soup. The Members learned how to use an immersion blender, sanitation and the importance of following directions.
One of our main goals this year is building confidence in the kitchen, Members are learning not only how to follow a recipe but also how to understand why certain techniques are used. I look forward to seeing those who are participating in the Baking and Stir-ups competitions February 28th!
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 17th, at Herrick hall, 6-8:30pm. Our next meeting will continue developing these skills while introducing new cooking techniques and teamwork challenges (specific menu and activities will be announced soon). Members should come prepared with closed-toe shoes, hair secured back, and ready to cook! Please reach out if you have any questions or need additional information.

HORSELESS HORSE PROJECT
🎵It's beginning to look a lot like...
springtime?? Well, our horses aren't really shedding yet, so I'll believe it when I see it!
A big thank you to Katie Lynn Smith and Snowdrop Equine for taking an evening to teach us about ground safety and groundwork. Members were able to groom and lead horses through an obstacle course.
*It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Beau (bay, pictured below) and give Katie big hugs! We were honored to spend one of Beau's last nights with him as he continued to teach youngsters with patience and humor. 💔
Our March meeting will be our annual
Pasta and Project Books workshop. This is a chance for members to bring in their project books and record books and have dedicated time to catch up. March is a great month to stay on top of our project books, so we aren't stressed as the spring months zoom right by. Fair will be here before we know it! We will be meeting on Tuesday, March 17th from 6-8 pm at the 4-H office. PLEASE RSVP and list any allergies, too. Parents are welcome to stay to help or drop off. The vet science project will be joining us, too.

Each member of the group knitted or crocheted several beautiful hearts and gave them, along with a personal valentine card, to each resident. Bringing a smile to their faces and hearing their heartfelt thank you's and compliments on the lovely crocheted hearts was a joy to see and hear! See the photo below of the group outside the Memory Care unit.
Our March meeting will begin our work on a project of your choice. We will be available to help with matching up yarn and patterns, new stitches, and pattern instructions so you will have success with your chosen pattern. Please watch for the reminder email about a week before the meeting for more information and printable patterns if you are interested.
Bonnie will teach us fun facts about Fair so you may consider entering crocheted/knitted projects if you desire!
We will also continue to update our Record Books, so please bring yours. We will have blank ones if you choose to transfer your current one to a shiny new one. We also have pencils, thanks to Phyllis!

LEATHERCRAFT PROJECT
**This Project is FULL and is no longer taking new enrollments.
Every year I have lead leather craft the lacing portion has sometimes gone really well, and everyone flies through is and sometimes we all struggled. This year was a year that we were all struggling a little. I include myself in that statement. I am not totally sure why I was struggling with the first lace I was using, but we all made it through.
At the beginning of the meeting, I went through the requirements for exhibiting projects at county fair. Record books: My 4H Year and Non-Livestock Project, activity/project book (gotten from extension office-I have a cover sheet if you don’t have one from me yet), interview, and educational display of some sort. You are NOT REQUIRED to exhibit at fair, but you are always encouraged to. If you have questions, please reach out to me. Some of the activities that will count one of the 7 activities you need can be watching any of the new video’s that Colorado State University has redone with the help of Jim Linnel
Sean and Sophie lead our ice breaker. They also took the 4-H’s that had missed the first meeting and showed them the many different types of leather sources and tanning techniques. They also helped other students review the basic tool, and all of the other material we have covered. I want to thank both for their willingness to help other younger students.
I showed everyone how to do the whip stitch and double loop lacing. Here is a great video on how to do double loop lacing. Like I said, no one completed their double loop lacing and some of them took it home to work on their lacing. I would encourage everyone to watch this video as they work on there projects. I hoped to get a little further than we did, but I am sure that we will be able to get everything done, even if we finish everything in June.
During the next meeting, we will work on finishing up these bookmarks and show everyone how to splice their lace together. We will also stamp our skillet handle covers, edge, finish/paint and stitch them together. We may not get all of them completely stitched at the March meeting, but we can always finish them up at one of the open workshops in June.
Meetings between now and Fair:
- March 21
- April 18
- May (no meeting) but Rocky Mountain Leather Show in Sheridan (FREE class May 16th- 9am to noon; Must register)
- June 2 or 3 half day open workshop times to finish projects and receive extra help.
April 18th class will be taught be Amanda Fraker, Ann Stoleman award winner, saddlemaker and silversmith. I will keep you posted as to what class she is going to be teaching. The cost of the class will cover the leather that you will be using as she donates her time and traveling expenses to the project (usually 5 to 10 dollars per student). When she decides what she is going to be teaching specifically I will let you know.
Thank you,
Merrita
P.S. Please review this list of tools (I know it is not up to date so please let me know if what I have down is correct or not)
- Isabella and Thomas: borrowed 2 sets of six tools, 2 styluses, 2 mallets, and 2 stones (returned 2 sets of tools but others are still out)
- Anthony: set of six tools, mallet and stone
- Joe: set of six tools, mallet and stone
- Morgan: stone and stylus
- Mariam: stone, stylus and mallet
- Bennett: set of 6 tools (yellow), swivel knife, stone, mallet, stylus
Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or need any additional information for anything.

SEWING PROJECT
**This Project is FULL and is no longer taking new enrollments.
The March sewing meeting will be held March 10th, from 5:00-7:00 at the RevivALL Studio, 2105 Lea Ave, Bozeman.
During our February meeting we practiced giving our "Hands To Larger Service" and celebrating Valentine's Day by sharing some love with our community. ♥️ We put our sewing skills to work making walker caddy bags for several retirement and nursing homes in our area. Each bag was beautifully unique and made with love.
If anyone needs to complete their walker caddy bag, we will have time at the beginning of the March sewing meeting to work on them. REMEMBER to bring your walker caddy bag to the meeting if you took it home to finish, or if you want to finish it at the March meeting. We will then be working on record books, so please bring your Non-Animal Project Journal pages to the meeting. We will have extra copies if you need one. We will also be talking about projects that you can make for the fair and will have several pattern options available for you to choose from. We will make sure everyone has a pattern for their fair project and a list of supplies needed for the fair project.
This project will meet on the 2nd Tuesday of each month from 5pm-7pm at the RevivALL Clothing studio at 2105 Lea Ave, Unit A in Bozeman.

WESTERN HERITAGE PROJECT
Project Notes: *Youth members must be at least 9 years old (age as of Oct. 1st) to participate.
Hello 4-H Western Heritage Shooting Sports Families,
After careful consideration, I regret to inform you that the Gallatin 4-H office will be canceling the Western Heritage Shooting Sports project for the 2025-2026 4-H year. While we know this may be disappointing news, this decision was made to ensure that all 4-H projects meet our program standards for leader preparedness, communication, and overall quality youth experience.
At this point, it would not be appropriate to continue holding families “on standby” or charging project fees without a clear, compliant plan in place. It is our mission to provide high quality, hands-on educational experiences to our youth and we were not able to solidify plans for this year’s project in time to deliver those experiences. Our office will begin the process of refunding enrolled families ($40 shooting sports fee + $5 project fee per youth) via mailed checks in the coming weeks.
We appreciate your patience and understanding. We recognize the interest in this project and hope to work toward re-offering the Western Heritage Shooting Sports project in a future 4-H year. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the 4-H office.
While we know this year’s cancellation of the Gallatin 4-H Western Heritage Shooting Sports project was disappointing, we’d like to connect your family with an online Winter Webinar Series focused on Western Heritage topics for youth who are interested in growing their knowledge and skills in this area. While this opportunity does not replace the hands-on shooting sports experience, it does provide valuable education in areas such as historical context, safety principles, equipment knowledge, and the traditions that shape Western Heritage disciplines.
These webinars could be a great way for youth to continue building their understanding, stay connected to the project area, and prepare for when we are able to re-offer the full Western Heritage Shooting Sports experience in a future Gallatin 4-H year.

VET SCIENCE PROJECT
Later in the spring (late April to early May), we’ll have the opportunity to tour a lambing facility.
January Recap – What an Epic Experience! 🐴✨
In January, our members had an incredible behind-the-scenes experience at MT Equine Medical & Surgical Center—and wow, what a day! From pre- and post-op care to MRI imaging, students got a real-world look at cutting-edge veterinary medicine. They also learned about exciting advancements in platelet medicine and how it’s helping horses with arthritis. The staff were absolutely wonderful hosts—huge thanks to the entire team for such a memorable experience!
Members also toured a farrowing operation and were treated to a fun and super knowledgeable tour by Griffin Jensen. Big thanks to Griffin for an awesome afternoon of learning and laughs!
Coming Up – March 17 (6–8 PM): Pasta & Project Book Night 🍝📘
Join us for a cozy, productive evening at the Gallatin Extension Office! Bring your appetite for a pasta dinner and your Vet Science workbook to work on activities together. The event will be led by Sarah Capp.
📞 Please call Sarah at 406-579-3211 with any food allergies or questions.
Can’t wait to see everyone there!
Additionally, Dr. Goldhahn from the MSU Montana Veterinary Medicine Program will be joining us on Thursday, April 9th at 6pm at the 4-H Office to present on a wide range of veterinary‑medicine topics.
I’m looking forward to meeting everyone soon.

CAT PROJECT
Our next meeting on Wednesday, March 4th at 5:30pm upstairs at Alpenglow Animal Hospital, 2401 Riata Rd, Bozeman.
Reed O'Brien will be presenting cats in Egyptian History at the Wednesday, March 4th meeting which should be super fun and interesting as well! Kate Oghigian and Remi Neil will be doing a cat showmanship workshop closer to fair to help teach our members who hope to show at fair more about presenting their cats and what things the judge may be looking for. If any other members have fun things they are interested in presenting, please let me know and we will get them scheduled in.
Also - if anyone is a member of another project that could be used in conjunction with the cat project to do something fun for our community (ie- we sewed catnip cat toys a couple years ago and gave them to the cats at Heart of the Valley Shelter, a great project for both sewing and cats!), this is another idea we can use for a project activity!
Thank you to all who have stepped up to volunteer to keep our project active, fed and fun!

C2M/Green Horse is offering a year long video subscription to a trainer for all C2M/Green horse members! Project is asking that members pay $60 to project to help offset the cost. We prefer members pay via check or Venmo labeled C2M/Green horse project. We realize that this is a lot of fees due all at once if you have multiple children or multiple children in multiple projects, and we never want money to be a barrier to participation in the Horse Project. Please just communicate your plan on how you intend to fulfill these obligations and do so as quickly as possible. If additional support is needed please reach out to the committee so we can help you.
LESSON SCHOLARSHIP FUND (NEW OPPORTUNITY!!!)
In order to meet the diverse needs of our motivated members, the Horse Committee is offering a Lesson Scholarship Fund to members who have attended at least three horse project clinics. Up to $75 per member is available to help fund private or group lessons with the horse professional of your choice!!! This form is your application to apply, and must be filled out AFTER you have attended three 4H horse project clinics.
SPRING VACCINATIONS and PAPERWORK (Given between Feb 1-June 1)
In order to participate in Fair, a Flu/Rhino or 5 or 6 way vaccine (which includes flu/rhino) must be administered between February 1 and June 1st. Since all the arenas we will be using this spring require flu/rhino within 6 months, if you did not vaccinate your horse in the fall, we recommend you go ahead and vaccinate them now, and upload the info in the "spring Vaccine" category of the Paperwork Requirements spreadsheet. If you already vaccinated in the fall, we recommend you wait until later in the spring, to ensure year round coverage, but make sure to have it done prior to June 1. Proof of Negative Coggins within one year is also required for MSU. Visit www.gallatincounty4hhorse.com and scroll down to the Paperwork Requirement Link
CLINIC PARTICIPATION:
To be eligible to compete in any classes at Fair, members must participate in a minimum of three (3) 4-H riding clinics. Any horse that will be exhibited at fair must have attended and been ridden in at least one clinic. The 3 workshop requirement can be met by any Gallatin County 4-H horse sponsored workshop including Horse Committee hosted riding workshops, Working Ranch Horse riding workshops, Jumping/Dressage workshops, Colt/Green Horse workshops, Reining class workshops, or Twisters Drill team riding practices. Knowledge clinics are encouraged but do not count toward the 3 riding clinic requirement.
In addition to the overall clinic requirements, Individual projects have additional requirements in order for the participating member to be eligible to compete at Fair in that particular project.
