Montana 4-H Member Spotlight - Bonnie Radke
Bonnie Radke, Gallatin County 4-H Member & County Ambassador, was selected to be one of the September Montana 4-H Member Spotlights highlighted on the radio show
Voices of Montana. Bonnie and Gallatin 4-H Agent Molly traveled over to Billings to be live in-studio. Check out the playback linked here: September 4-H Spotlight - Voices of Montana - Bonnie’s segment begins around the 23:00 mark
"Bonnie has dedicated herself to 4-H for the last eight years, participating in a wide variety of 4-H projects including poultry, rabbit, dog obedience and agility, sewing, archery, and leadership. She has served as a Gallatin 4-H Ambassador, teen leader, 4-H camp counselor and officer for the Shining Mountaineers 4-H Club.
Bonnie frequently sets out to challenge herself, often paving the way and finding new opportunities for her 4-H program. Her involvement in state events such as Citizenship Seminar, Rec Lab, Fall Leadership Training, Congress, and in creative contests such as videography, Fashion Revue, and Montana Make It With Wool, has inspired others to learn about them in turn. She seeks out new opportunities to become more involved in niche programs, and events, and programming opportunities.
Her interest in leadership development opportunities has encouraged other teens to stay involved in 4-H through high school. She is an advocate for the "underdog" and she loves to mentor younger members.
As a Camp Counselor, 4-H County Ambassador and senior-level 4-H member, Bonnie gives herself, her time and her experience to those in our program. She often guest speaks at our Rabbit, Poultry, Dog and Cat project workshops, teaching members about animal anatomy, showmanship and leadership. She has led various workshops for our county-wide educational initiatives, giving her experiences as a once shy member and showing others how they too can come out of their shells and find something they are passionate about." |

Earn Money for your 4-H Project or Club
We have the AMAZING opportunity to continue to work MSU Concessions and this has become a GREAT way to raise money for 4-H club/project activities! Please see the link below for the 2024 Fall Fundraising concessions events at MSU! We frequently commit to events throughout the year as they arise and update the SignUp Genius accordingly.
What does working MSU Concessions entail? All food is made and prepped by MSU Culinary/Concessions staff, 4-H members/parents just simply sell and serve it out of one of the concessions stands on MSU Campus (Stadium or Fieldhouse depending on the event). This is a super easy, fun and quick way to make money for your Clubs/Projects and gain some skills in the service industry! A Stand Leader and MSU Concessions staff will train you on the spot with what you need to know - No experience necessary!
Fall Fundraising Event SignUp:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084DA9A92AABFE3-48570182-fall
During the 2023-2024 4-H Year, 4-H Clubs/Projects earned over $19,000 total working at MSU Concession events!! If club/project members sign up for an event as a group, your club/project will get ALL the tips and a percentage of the profits from that event. If multiple projects/clubs sign up for the same game, then the tips and profits will be split between the groups. So, we highly encourage you to gather up your members, pick a game/event that your club/project will work as one group to maximize the amount of money you will earn!
Depending on the event, the day/time/hours will vary and depending on our concessions stand location, the number of people we will need per game will vary. We will need a combination of youths (minimum age of 10 with parent accompaniment) and teens/adults (ages 15+) to run cash registers.
If you have any questions, please contact the 4-H Office

Belgrade Pioneers Club
**The Belgrade Pioneers Club will be merging with the Shining Mountaineers Club in the 2024-2025 4-H Year.

DOG OBEDIENCE
PROJECT CHANGES in the 2024-2025 year: Youth members now must be at least 8 years old (age as of Oct. 1st) to participate. Cloverbuds ages 5-7 will no longer be allowed to participate due to the size of project and for safety of animals and kids.
Hello and welcome to the new 4-H year!
I am excited to be leading this project again. Enrollment will be capped this year, so be sure to get signed up ASAP! Our classes don't really get underway until April, when we will start meeting every Wednesday afternoon at Montana Murray Kennels in Belgrade until fair time. This is a fun project, but it is also a project that requires a pretty large time commitment, so please be aware of that before signing up. I am working on scheduling a few special workshops for us between now and April, one of them that is already on the books is a tour of West Paws!! Please watch the monthly newsletters for more information and also your email, as I will be sending out detailed emails with information regarding our project to members.
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions.

QUILTING *new project this year!
ATTENTION QUILTERS OR 4-Hers INTERESTED IN LEARNING HOW TO QUILT
Quilting is a really, really fun lifelong skill to learn, whether you learn for your own use or as the potential way to make money. I would like to invite anyone who is interested in learning to quilt or to improve their quilting skills to be a part of this project this year.
My name is Ginny Francis. I was in 4-H from the time that I was very young, and have been a 4-H leader for a long time. I am a retired Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher. Quilting is one of my many hobbies, probably my favorite right now.
I would like to start having meetings soon, at one of the 4-H Office conference rooms, so when I get a list of interested 4-Hers, I will be in contact to see when works best to have meetings. Some knowledge of sewing and/or quilting is helpful, but not required. You will need to have some supplies. A list will be provided later. You will need a sewing machine, basic quilting supplies, etc. Some supplies can be shared, but some you will need to have on your own.
I have several projects in mind to make this year, depending somewhat on the interests of the group. If you have any interest in this project, I really encourage you to check it our. With a few supplies, a good attitude, some creativity and some fabric, you will be amazed what you can create.
Please, please enroll as soon after enrollment opens on October 1st as possible so that we can get started. The first couple meetings will set the tome for the year, so I would love to see everyone start at the beginning.
Looking forward to quilting with you.

RABBIT - Market or Breed/Pet
Welcome to the 2024-2025 4-H year! We are excited to meet our new members and reconnect with those returning. Please make sure to enroll in the rabbit project as soon as possible!
Right now our rabbit committee consists of myself, Cody Brownell, and Jim Murphy. We need more committee members! If you would like to join us please let me know. Many hands make for less work - and more fun.
Our meetings will be held the 3rd Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm, with the exception of December. They will run for an hour to an hour and a half in length. If you must drop off your 4-H member, please make sure to return within an hour.
Our first meeting will be Thursday, October 17th at 6:30 pm in Exhibit Building #4 at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds. Rabbits are welcome, but not required.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!
December 7th is the annual Christmas Stroll and our Cotton Candy Fundraiser. Plan on coming to help make and sell cotton candy! It's a great experience for the kids and helps pay for our judges and prizes for the fair.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on October 17th!

ARCHERY
Project Notes: *Youth members must be at least 9 years old (age as of Oct. 1st) to participate.
Please sign up for the project soon as space is limited.
The 4-H Archery project begins on December 8th and will conclude in March after the Montana 4-H State Shoot. Shooting times will be weekly on Sunday afternoons between 1 and 5pm at Big Sky Archery in Four Corners. Watch for a sign up genius in late November for exact shooting times.
If you are new to the project, don’t worry about archery equipment at this time, 4-H has plenty of bows to get you started. If you are a continuing shooter, keep practicing and we’ll see everyone in December.
Randy Radke, Brian Marassi and Mike Prester are the current co-archery leaders. We are hoping to get a couple of other volunteers trained in December. Anyone who would like to help facilitate please reach out to Randy at gv4harchery@gmail.com. We need both volunteers that like to shoot, those that know 4-H leadership and who can just help organize.
