2024 Fair Season is upon us in Montana!
Gallatin County 4-H/FFA Fair events will be held at the Big Sky Country State Fair in Bozeman on the Gallatin County Fairgrounds July 12th - July 20th!
Be sure to check out our 4-H/FFA Fair Events Schedules for your project arrival times, weigh-ins, exhibit judging, shows, market photos, Market Sale, etc:
Reminder: New Sunday Schedule
The 4-H/FFA Livestock Areas will be closed to the public on the last Sunday (07/21) of the 2024 Big Sky Country State Fair. Trucks, semis and trailers will be moving through the livestock areas throughout the day, so to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the general public, exhibitors, and animals, the areas will be closed off from the rest of the Fair.
For the mutual benefit of the Fairgrounds and 4-H/FFA exhibitors, Sunday will now become a processor load-out and barn clean-up day. 4-H/FFA market animals that are sold through the Market Livestock Sale are terminal projects intended for meat consumption. At the request of the meat processors, animals are to be transported to their final destinations beginning Sunday morning. All other 4-H/FFA animals will be released from Fair intermittently throughout Sunday at the discretion of each species.
Exhibitors are still required to be at the Fairgrounds for this day (Sunday 07/21), as they are expected to care for their animals until release, help clean barns and assist species committees.
4-H/FFA families with reserved RV camping spots will be permitted to move onto the Fairgrounds beginning on Saturday, July 13th. All RVs must be in place by no later than Monday, July 15th at 6pm. RVs will be allowed to leave the grounds at any time starting Sunday, July 21st with attention to livestock transport trailers and load-out schedules. |

UPDATE: 4-H Concessions Stand @ Fair
**Our typical 4-H Fair Concessions stand has been deemed “unusable” this year due to a broken pipe and other structural issues. We are still planning to have concessions, but will definitely need all hands on deck to make this happen! Our priority is to still be able to offer affordable food options all Fair week long to 4-H/FFA families as we know Fair vendor food can be pricey. Even if you are not planning on exhibiting at the 2024 Fair, please consider signing up for a shift to help!
For 2024, our plan is to prepare all concessions food in the commercial kitchen in Exhibit Building #4 (building behind the 4-H Indoor exhibit building) throughout the week and serve food out of a 20x30 Tent in front of our typical 4-H Concessions location at Indoor Arena (sheep/goat/rabbit barn).
We need BOTH Youth & Adults to sign up for Kitchen Shifts (prepping/cooking) and/or Tent Shifts (selling/serving). The money earned from the concessions is a large part of helping youth and volunteers attend events, fund projects and much more! Your couple of hours of work is so helpful to making 4-H successful.
Youth: Ages 8 and older can work in the Kitchen and/or Concessions Tent. Youth 8-11 years old must be accompanied by an adult. (Please make sure to sign up for an adult slot. If the adult slot is filled, please select another time).
Adults: We will need adults to help with all shifts (kitchen cooking/prepping and selling/serving under the Tent). The more adult help the better!! If your youth is 8-11 years old, please sign up for an Adult slot at the same time as your youth member. Please do not bring youth under 8 years old to the Concessions Stand as this is a safety issue.
SIGN UP HERE: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C084DA9A92AABFE3-50131220-4hcafe
Be sure to arrive about 5 minutes early for your scheduled time at your scheduled location so that you are prepared to start at that time. If you need to reschedule or are unable to make your scheduled time, please find your own replacement.
CONCESSION STAND OPERATING HOURS:
Wednesday 07/10 – 10:00 am – approx. 4:00 pm (KITCHEN PRE-FAIR PREP DAY – ADULTS ONLY exhibit building #4)
Monday 7/15 - 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Tuesday 7/16 - 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Wednesday 7/17 - 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Thursday 7/18 - 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Friday 7/19 - 8:00 am - 8:00 pm (Market Sale Night)
Saturday 7/20 - 8:00 am - 8:00 pm
Sunday 7/21- 8:00 am – approx. 2:00 pm (4-H Livestock Areas CLOSED to public - leftovers, snack shack only during Animal Load Out and Barn Clean Up until supplies last)

HORSE PROJECTS
Fair is almost here! Please make sure that you are taking care of all the last minute items so that you are prepared and ready to show!
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
1. Interviews: Interviews will be held on July 11-12. Make sure you are signed up. Dress nice and bring your record book with you. These are required!!
2. Posters: Everyone needs to make a poster showcasing their horse and the work they have done this year in the horse project. These can be used to decorate your stall, along with any other items you choose to bring as decoration. There will be awards for the best posters!
3. Attire: Proper attire for each class can be found in Fairbook. In general, proper western attire includes dark or black jeans that are long enough to cover boots, ironed button down shirt that stays tucked, belt, and helmet (riding classes) or western hat (showmanship). Long hair should be neat and put in a bun.
3. Fair Horse Show: Friday, July 12-Sunday July 14. See Horse show schedule. The arena will open at 7am Friday for Jumping/Dressage warm up, with bit checks at 8am for all English classes. "Check in and Chill out" for all other participants will begin at 5 -7pm on Friday!!! This is mandatory! Bring your bit to have it officially approved, You will not be able to show without an approved bit. This is also a time to get your number, decorate your stalls, acclimate your horse to the arena, and help set up and practice the trail course. General Showmanship and western classes will be on Saturday, with Cowboy Church and Working Ranch Horse on Sunday. Games and the Awards ceremony will be on Sunday, July 14th evening.
4. Stalls- Every horse participating in fair will have a stall. You will be required to give a stall deposit which will be returned to you at the end of fair after someone has checked to see that your stall was left clean and in good condition. Even if you do not intend to keep your horses at the fairgrounds overnight, stalls are a nice place to allow your horse to have a break between classes, etc.
5. Fair Rules/Etiquette:
- Clean up after yourself and your horse! Bring your own rake and bucket or wheelbarrow for manure. Clean up after others if they forget!
- Do not trot or lope in the parking lot area.
- Do not ride double or without a helmet.
- Be prepared and ready and waiting for your classes. Do not stand in gate area unless your class is next.
- Help others and be encouraging to all members! 4H is about having fun, and everyone doing their best!
- Volunteer and help! If you see a need, help fill it or find a Horse Committee member in a green shirt to let us know. Don't be a complainer, be a problem solver!!
- Show GRACE to the leaders, other competitors, and parents. Remember that everyone is just doing the best they can!!
- HAVE FUN!!!
